About Somali Network UK

Somali Network UK is an independent civic and policy organisation founded by British Somalis. We work to improve understanding of Somalia and to strengthen links between Somalia, the Somali diaspora and international institutions.

Public discussion of Somalia often lacks the historical, constitutional and regional context needed to understand events properly. We fill those gaps and ensure Somali perspectives are heard.

Parliamentary engagement

We produce a regular newsletter distributed to Members of the UK Parliament and other decision-makers. It makes important developments accessible, explains issues that may otherwise be misunderstood, and draws attention to matters affecting Somalia and its diaspora. We are also working towards establishing an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Somalia in the UK Parliament to create a sustained cross-party platform for engagement.

Analysis and advocacy

We publish articles and commentary for Somali and wider audiences. Where political or media discussion is incomplete, distorted or presented without sufficient context, we provide a fuller and more accurate understanding. We also engage institutions directly when their decisions or public communications inaccurately describe Somalia or overlook Somali concerns - supplying evidence, requesting corrections and advocating for fair treatment.

Convening dialogue

We bring together Somali political leaders, international scholars, journalists, professionals and members of the diaspora for serious, informed discussion. Through Lasanod Forum 2026, convened with Nuugaal University, we examined political, institutional, economic and regional questions affecting Northeastern State and Somalia more broadly.

Our aim

Our long-term goal is to make Somali Network UK a reliable point of contact for anyone seeking to understand or engage with Somalia and the Somali diaspora. We want better-informed debate, stronger relationships and greater space for Somali perspectives in public life.
